Everyone would like to visit Vienna even one time in their life. But maybe better choice is bringing Vienna to Gdańsk? Polish Baltic Philharmonic is going to do that! Feel invited to the symphonic concert VIENNA IN GDANSK! March, the 20th at 7:00 pm on the Ołowianka Island!

The last year concert of talented young artists from University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna was received recognition of the audience. So this year the most gifted musicians will be perform on the Ołowianka Island once again. They would like to present their outstanding skills and bring atmosphere of Vienna. Because of that they prepared excellent concert program. The Symphonic Orchestra of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic will appear with them.

During the concert we will hear a few wonderful pieces. One of them is symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini: Symphonic Fantasy after Dante, Op. 32 written by Peter Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky shows us a symphonic interpretation of the tragic tale of Francesca da Rimini, a beauty who was immortalized in Dante's Divine Comedy (the fifth canto of Inferno). The narrator meets the shade of Francesca da Rimini, a noblewoman who was fallen in love with the handsome cousin of her ugly husband. The lovers were discovered and killed in revenge by the husband. Then they were condemned to Hell for their adulterous passions. In their damnation, the lovers are trapped together in a violent storm, whirled through the air around the second circle of Hell, never to touch the ground again.

This masterpiece also makes references to Dante Symphony by Liszt. Tchaikovsky successfully refers feelings of lovers, which contrasts with depths of hell. No wonder that among sounds the dominate is vehement rhythms, sharp dissonance and hissing sound phrases of instruments – similar to lightning’s. There is no doubt that Francesca da Rimini is a masterpiece which will move your heart.
