The Polish Baltic Philharmonic is famous in the whole Tri-City for its excellent festivals and concert series. Gdansk Music Festival is definitely one of them. Every year it takes place also on Ołowianka Island. Cherishing the tradition, we have planned wonderful concerts for 2014 as well.

Dedicated to John Paul II, this year’s edition of GMF will have its inauguration in the form of a Papal Concert in the Archcathedral Basilica in the district of Oliwa, Gdansk, already on 4 April at 7:15 pm. We will hear then A German Requiem (op. 45) – an excellent work by Johannes Brahms. Next festival concerts on Ołowianka will take place between 6 and 11 April, including six events categorized according to specific motifs to emphasize their musical diversity.

The first motif is the East. We will have an unrepeatable chance to hear Russian music played by outstanding artists during the first two concerts. Firstly, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra will perform “The Extraordinary Symphonic Concert” (6 April, 6:00 pm). Then we will admire music played by the Kaliningrad Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra (“Russian Music and More”, 7 April, 7:00 pm).

We will also pay attention to splendid instruments played by true maestri. The Festival will give us an opportunity to hear the tones of organ and flute – Prof. Roman Perucki and Łukasz Długosz will perform “Musical Variétés” (8 April, 7:00 pm), whereas Ishay Shaer will enchant us with the beautiful sounds of piano during her “Extraordinary Piano Recital” (9 April, 7:0 0 pm).

The last of our motifs refers to outstanding personages from the world of music. Emerson String Quartet will review the “Masterpieces of Chamber Music” (10 April, 7:00 pm). The band from Now York has been awarded as many as 9 Grammies and recorded more than 30 excellent albums within the 30 years of their career. The concert will take place as part of the events accompanying the 18th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival organized in collaboration with the Ludwig van Beethoven Association. We have not forgot about the true legend of the Polish music either. The concert “In Memoriam Wojciech Kilar” (11 April, 7:00 pm) will remind us of the composer and give us a chance to pay tribute to his artistic work.
