April attractions at the Philharmonic

In April we will see many outstanding pianists. Gábor Farkas will grace the Pomeranian Artistic Award Gala, Alexander Korsantia will play with the PFB Orchestra conducted by George Tchitchinadze, and two of the three graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk are pianists - Klara Jachimczak and Bartosz Wiśniewski (the third is accordionist Dominik Żych). The month opens with a special concert in the Oliwa Cathedral, with two harpists: Carlos Peña Montoya and Juliusz Wesołowski as soloists.

Concerts dedicated to the memory of John Paul II have been attracting large and faithful audiences to the Oliwa Cathedral for many years, which is why PFB Orchestra he plays such concerts with great pleasure. This time, the philharmonic orchestra will be led by a young, talented conductor Radosław Droń. Two harpists will unusually play the roles of soloists Carlos Peña Montoya and Juliusz Wesołowski. Actor Jakub Kornacki will recite fragments of John Paul II's works. We will hear Old Polish Suite Andrzej Panufnik, Concertino in the old style for two harps and string orchestra by Maciej Małecki and Symphony No. 36 in D major, Op. XNUMX Ludwig van Beethoven.

12/04, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk

Once a year, a symphonic concert takes place at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic PFB Orchestra performed by exceptionally talented graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. This time, three of them will play: Klara Jachimczak (piano), Bartosz Wiśniewski (piano) and Dominik Żych (accordion). The Gdańsk Philharmonic will be led by the maestro during this special concert Przemysław Neumann, director of the Opole Philharmonic (since September, director of the Szczecin Philharmonic). Dominik Żych with the PFB Orchestra will perform Concerto Classico by Mikołaj Majkusiak, Klara Jachimczak will play Ferenc Liszt's Piano Concerto in E flat major, and Bartosz Wiśniewski will perform Dance of the Dead Liszt. Four saxophonists (Jakub Muras – soprano saxophone, Mateusz Dobosz – alto saxophone, Krzysztof Koszowski – tenor saxophone and Szymon Zawodny – baritone saxophone) under the banner The Whoop Group they are a real sensation. No wonder, because the program with which they will come to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic as part of the Polish Music Stage series, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance, is a combination of well-known hits of classical and popular music with the sound of the saxophone, in original , arrangements prepared by the band. Krzysztof Komeda's compositions will be played (including Rosemary's Baby) and Album Tatrzańskie op. 12 by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and String Quartet No. 3, Op. 145/XNUMX Mieczysław Wajnberg.

17/04, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – {oh!} Orchestra

Historical performances are not often performed at the Philharmonic, but this time we decided to invite you to a special concert of the band {oh!} Orchestra, which, under the leadership of Martyna Pastuszka, has gained the reputation of the best orchestra specializing in historical performance in Poland and one of the most musically interesting orchestras on the European stage. Orchestra leader Martyna Pastuszka she is also an excellent violinist and concertmaster of the band, and as the second soloist we will see a well-known pianist in Gdańsk Piotr Pawlak (winner of the 12nd International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments as part of the National Institute of Music and Dance award for the best Pole). The program includes Divertimenta (D major and F major) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as well as the composer's Piano Concerto in A major and Piano Concerto No. 21 in F minor, Op. XNUMX by Fryderyk Chopin – both on a historical piano.

19/04, 19:00 – Symphony concert – Alexander Korsantia 

Two individuals will meet during this symphony concert. A rising star of conducting, winner of the 11th International Conducting Competition. G. Fitelberg in Katowice Jong-Jie Yin from China and a renowned, great Georgian pianist Alexander Korsantia, warmly received by the Gdańsk audience two years ago during the recital of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Winner of the 73st prize and the Gold Medal at the International Master Piano Competition. The Arthur Rubinstein Theater in Tel Aviv regularly gives concerts around the world, and the young Chinese conductor is rapidly climbing the career ladder. They meet in Gdańsk during the XNUMXth Piano Concerto in E flat major, Op. XNUMX Imperialego Ludwig van Beethoven. PFB Orchestra he will also play Symphony No. 1, Op. 39 Jean Sibelius. The concert accompanies the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Government.

The instrument's keyboard is a great and endless source of inspiration. Moreover, the differences between keyboard instruments are huge, and yet they constitute one of the most interesting families of instruments that both young and old music lovers should know. This is where interesting personalities from the world of string, wind and percussion instruments meet, whose common denominator is the sound produced by touching a key. Great musicians will make the audience truly dizzy at the Keyboard Festival: the organist Maciej Zakrzewski, harpsichordist Maksym Zajączkiewicz, accordionist Maciej Kacprzak, pianist Michał Mossakowski and a marimba player Marek Czajka.

25/04, 19:00 – Pomeranian Artistic Award Gala

For many years, the final of the Pomeranian Artistic Award (the most important and prestigious award in the field of culture in Pomerania) has been presented by the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship during the Gala at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. Material and symbolic awards are only part of the rewards for nominees, winners and viewers. The icing on the cake is the concert PFB Orchestras. This time the Gdańsk Philharmonic will be led by their artistic director (and PNA winner in 2023) George Tchitchinadze. The star of the concert will be a Hungarian pianist Gabor Farkas, who will perform Ferenc Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major. In addition, we will hear the Overture to the Opera Barber of Seville Gioacchino Rossini and La valse by Maurice Ravel.
