Pomeranian Art Awards awarded

We met the winners of the 25th anniversary Pomeranian Art Award. Three winners of the best Artistic Creations in 2023, the Pomeranian Artistic Hope and the Patron of Culture in 2023 were selected. The Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mieczysław Struk, also awarded the Great Pomeranian Artistic Award to the most distinguished artists associated with Pomerania.

GREAT POMERANIAN ARTISTIC AWARD (statuette of the Pomeranian Griffin, designed by Maria Kuczyńska, and PLN 30) - winner:

Dorota Kolak - an outstanding theater and film actress (almost her entire career associated with the Wybrzeże Theater). 

Laureates ARTISTIC CREATIONS for 2023 (Gryf Pomorski statuettes and PLN 25):

André Ochodlo (singer, theater director, set designer) - nominated for "Ghetto Songs" - a concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and a recital "Five Loves" on the occasion of the artist's sixtieth birthday and thirty-five years of performing on stage;

Jerzy Snakowski (cultural animator, popularizer of opera, musical and ballet) - nominated for directing the operetta "The Princess of Czardas" by Imre Kálmán on the stage of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, a fresh and spontaneous performance, as well as for the 15th anniversary season of the series of musical broadcasts "Opera? Si!”;

Łukasz LUC Rostkowski (music producer, rapper, vocalist, composer, lyricist and director of music videos, concerts and shows) - nominated for composing the soundtrack to the film "Chłopi" directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, music constituting a compendium of Slavic folk music.

POMERANIAN ARTISTIC HOPE (Pomeranian Griffin statuette and PLN 20) - winner:

Karolina Kowalska (actress) - nominated for the title, intricately built, emotional role of "Beautiful Zośka" directed by Marcin Wierzchowski at the Wybrzeże Theater;

PATRON OF CULTURE for 2023 (Gryf Pomorski statuettes):

Laminopol sp. z o. o (distributor of resins and all kinds of additives necessary for the processing of chemically hardened plastics) - awarded for financial support of the Polish Philharmonic Sinfonia Baltica. W. Kilar in Słupsk, the Słupsk Sinfonietta, the NIEMEN NON STOP festival and rock concerts, as well as artists from Słupsk.

Pomeranian Art Award is the most important award of the Pomeranian Voivodeship awarded in the field of culture. Its winners are representatives of the artistic community of our region who in the past year were the authors of an outstanding artistic achievement or contributed to the creation of a unique cultural event. This year the award was granted for the twenty-fifth time.

April attractions at the Philharmonic

In April we will see many outstanding pianists. Gábor Farkas will grace the Pomeranian Artistic Award Gala, Alexander Korsantia will play with the PFB Orchestra conducted by George Tchitchinadze, and two of the three graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk are pianists - Klara Jachimczak and Bartosz Wiśniewski (the third is accordionist Dominik Żych). The month opens with a special concert in the Oliwa Cathedral, with two harpists: Carlos Peña Montoya and Juliusz Wesołowski as soloists.

Concerts dedicated to the memory of John Paul II have been attracting large and faithful audiences to the Oliwa Cathedral for many years, which is why PFB Orchestra he plays such concerts with great pleasure. This time, the philharmonic orchestra will be led by a young, talented conductor Radosław Droń. Two harpists will unusually play the roles of soloists Carlos Peña Montoya and Juliusz Wesołowski. Actor Jakub Kornacki will recite fragments of John Paul II's works. We will hear Old Polish Suite Andrzej Panufnik, Concertino in the old style for two harps and string orchestra by Maciej Małecki and Symphony No. 36 in D major, Op. XNUMX Ludwig van Beethoven.

12/04, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk

Once a year, a symphonic concert takes place at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic PFB Orchestra performed by exceptionally talented graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. This time, three of them will play: Klara Jachimczak (piano), Bartosz Wiśniewski (piano) and Dominik Żych (accordion). The Gdańsk Philharmonic will be led by the maestro during this special concert Przemysław Neumann, director of the Opole Philharmonic (since September, director of the Szczecin Philharmonic). Four saxophonists (Jakub Muras – soprano saxophone, Mateusz Dobosz – alto saxophone, Krzysztof Koszowski – tenor saxophone and Szymon Zawodny – baritone saxophone) under the banner The Whoop Group they are a real sensation. No wonder, because the program with which they will come to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic as part of the Polish Music Stage series, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance, is a combination of well-known hits of classical and popular music with the sound of the saxophone, in original , arrangements prepared by the band. Historical performances are not often performed at the Philharmonic, but this time we decided to invite you to a special concert of the band {oh!} Orchestra, which, under the leadership of Martyna Pastuszka, has gained the reputation of the best orchestra specializing in historical performance in Poland and one of the most musically interesting orchestras on the European stage. Orchestra leader Martyna Pastuszka she is also an excellent violinist and concertmaster of the band, and as the second soloist we will see a well-known pianist in Gdańsk Piotr Pawlak (winner of the 12nd International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments as part of the National Institute of Music and Dance award for the best Pole). 19/04, 19:00 – Symphony concert – Alexander Korsantia 

Two individuals will meet during this symphony concert. A rising star of conducting, winner of the 11th International Conducting Competition. G. Fitelberg in Katowice Jong-Jie Yin from China and a renowned, great Georgian pianist Alexander Korsantia, warmly received by the Gdańsk audience two years ago during the recital of the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. Winner of the 73st prize and the Gold Medal at the International Master Piano Competition. The Arthur Rubinstein Theater in Tel Aviv regularly gives concerts around the world, and the young Chinese conductor is rapidly climbing the career ladder. The instrument's keyboard is a great and endless source of inspiration. Moreover, the differences between keyboard instruments are huge, and yet they constitute one of the most interesting families of instruments that both young and old music lovers should know. This is where interesting personalities from the world of string, wind and percussion instruments meet, whose common denominator is the sound produced by touching a key. Great musicians will make the audience truly dizzy at the Keyboard Festival: the organist Maciej Zakrzewski, harpsichordist Maksym Zajączkiewicz, accordionist Maciej Kacprzak, pianist Michał Mossakowski and a marimba player Marek Czajka.

For many years, the final of the Pomeranian Artistic Award (the most important and prestigious award in the field of culture in Pomerania) has been presented by the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship during the Gala at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. Material and symbolic awards are only part of the rewards for nominees, winners and viewers. The icing on the cake is the concert PFB Orchestras. This time the Gdańsk Philharmonic will be led by their artistic director (and PNA winner in 2023) George Tchitchinadze. The star of the concert will be a Hungarian pianist Gabor Farkas, who will perform Ferenc Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major. Pomeranian Artistic Award 2024 - nominations

A ceremonial ceremony will be held on April 25 at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Pomeranian Artistic Awards Galaj. That's when the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mieczysław Struk, will present the Pomeranian Griffin statuettes, designed by Maria Kuczyńska. The award is granted in three categories: Artistic Creation (three out of ten nominees), Pomeranian Artistic Hope (one winner out of three nominees) and Patronage of Culture (one company out of three nominees). In addition, the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship may issue an order Great Pomeranian Artistic Award for all creativity.

The winners in these fields are selected by two chapters: the Small Chapter of the Pomeranian Artistic Award, consisting of representatives of culture, media and art universities, selects the nominees, while the Large Chapter, which also includes winners from previous years, votes for the Award winners. The official part will follow symphonic concert with the participation of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of maestro George Tchitchinadze. What are we playing in March?

We open the month on March 1 with a violin concert by two-time Oscar winner Erich Wolfgang Korngold - the great Jarosław Nadrzycki will play with the PFB Orchestra. Less than a week later, we host Sinfonia Varsovia. We will celebrate Women's Day symphony with Krystyna Stańko, who will sing hits from the album "Aquarius". The MoCarta Group will perform for young viewers, and unique organ compositions, including improvisations to two painting works by Olga Boznańska, will be performed by Jürgen Geiger. As if that were not enough, we will have two more symphonic concerts - with the participation of pianist Luis Fernando Perez and violinist Piotr Pławner. As part of the Polish Music Stage series, the Early Music Ensemble - Diletto will also perform.

1/03, 19:00 – Symphonic concert – Korngold – melodies from Hollywood 

Film music is not particularly liked by classical composers, but there are notable exceptions. Erich Wolfgang Korngold in Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 included fragments of appreciated music (appreciated, among others, with an Oscar) for several of his films. Work from Orchestra of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, led by Christian Schumann, will be performed by one of the best Polish violinists of the young generation Jarosław Nadrzycki. It is not often that the PFB organizes concerts of other orchestral groups, but for such an excellent band as Warsaw Symphony We are happy to make an exception. Can there be anything better than four great musicians who popularize music using instruments, a great idea and ubiquitous wit? MoCarta Group composed of: Filip Jaślar (And violin), Michal Sikorski (XNUMXnd violin), Paweł Kowaluk (viola) i Bolek Błaszczyk (cello) maintains an acrobatic balance between seriousness and laughter, i.e. what we associate with high culture and what we consider less sophisticated entertainment. During this concert, viewers will be able to sing, dance, laugh, and at the same time learn about the difference between a violin and a double bass, why the viola sounds so beautiful and why the cello imitates the mooing of a cow so well. The popular string quartet invites all children from five to one hundred and five years of age to a concert full of beautiful music and a lot of humor.

13/03, 18:00 – The extraordinary art of organ transcription – Jürgen Geiger

German organist Jürgen Geiger will play on an excellent organ, built by the organ builder of Theodor Kuhn from Männendorf in Switzerland, which is the pride of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. The artist will perform a very diverse program. It will include Jürgen Geiger's own compositions (Orff meets Monteverdi, Toccatina e Saltarello) and works by great masters, which the hero of the concert arranged for organ (including Sinfonia in D major Ratswahlkantate BWV 29 by Jan Sebstian Bach, La ronde fantastique des revenants from Solitude op. 44 by Luis Vierne, Sonata in E major Longo 375 Capriccio by Domenico Scarlatti or Rákóczi's March by Ferenc Liszt). The Spanish piano virtuoso loves to play for the Gdańsk audience, which we eagerly take advantage of by inviting him to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. This time Luis Fernando Perez will reach for the Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, KV 491 for piano and orchestra, composed by Wolfgng Amadeus Mozart. The next March edition of the Polish Music Stage series, co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of its own Polish Music Stage program and financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, will allow us to meet specialists in music from centuries ago. Led by Anna Moniuszko Early Music Ensemble – Diletto combines playing instruments (including historical ones) with singing. We will hear soprano, alto, tenor and bass, as well as violin, dulcian, cello, double bass and positive in compositions from the turn of the Renaissance and Baroque. We welcome spring, of course, symphonic. The program includes two wonderful works: The American Four Seasons Violin Concerto No. 92 by Philip Glass for violin, string orchestra and synthesizer, and Symphony No. XNUMX in A major, Op. Hot February at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic

February in Ołowianka promises to be special. At the beginning, we will have a symphony concert with the participation of both directors of the Philharmonic - organist Roman Perucki and conductor George Tchitchinadze (February 2). The orchestra will also play on Shrove Tuesday at the Philharmonic (February 9), as well as with tenor Allan Clayton MBE and horn player Michał Szczerba (February 16), to crown the month with the monumental "Requiem" by Giuseppe Verdi with the participation of wonderful singers and the Lodz Philharmonic Choir (February 23). Moreover, we have the last Gdańsk Balls this year and the winner of the Chopin Competition with a recital of the Polish Music Stage series.

We are entering the new year with symphonic and carnival concerts that await music lovers every Friday and Saturday of the carnival. The PFB Orchestra will perform with outstanding violinists - Mario Hossen, Jakub and Krzysztof Jakowicz and pianist Nelson Goerner. It is with great joy that I invite you to participate in the International Organ Music Competition for the twelfth time. Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. According to tradition, the Competition will take place in Gdańsk - undoubtedly one of the most important centers of organ music in Europe. In the upcoming edition of the event, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic The Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Gdańsk will cooperate with the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Gdańsk. Stanisław Moniuszko in Gdańsk, Parish of St. Corpus Christi, the Basilica of St. Nicholas (Gdańsk Dominican Order) and the Oliwa Archcathedral, where, thanks to the courtesy of the Parish Priests and the Prior and Rector, the competition auditions will take place. Polish Music Stage: outstanding artists with Polish repertoire

The event is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of its own program Polish Music Stage, financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Thanks to this, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic will host eight chamber concerts with the participation of the best Polish artists, who will play pearls of Polish classical music.

An excellent trio of musicians who usually play with symphony orchestras as soloists throughout Poland, this time join forces to perform beautiful and very difficult compositions. Viola player Katarzyna Budnik, violinist Jakub Jakowicz and cellist Marcin Zdunik first they will perform in duets: Bucolics for viola and cello by Witold Lutosławski, Sonata per due violini Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and chaconne for violin and cello by Krzysztof Penderecki). An outstanding Polish flutist Łukasz Długosz will play together with Marek Toporowski – a leading harpsichordist and interpreter of early music in the country (and elsewhere). Compositions for flute and historical piano will be performed, including Polonaise in D major by Karol Kurpiński, Introduction et Variations Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński, Fantasy in C major by Franciszek Lessel, Polonaise in A minor by Michał Kleofas Ogiński and Grand Sonata for flute and historical piano by Michał Bergson.

18/01,19:00 – Tomasz Ritter 

An outstanding specialist in playing the historical piano will play such an instrument during the next concert of the Polish Music Stage. Thomas Ritter will interpret such treasures of piano literature as Fantasy in C major and Fantasy in E minor by Franciszek Lessel, Polonaise in D minor by Karol Kurpiński, Sonata No. XNUMX in D major by Józef Elsner, Aria Chaste diva from the opera Standard Vincenzo Bellini arranged by Fryderyk Chopin or a composition by Julian Fontana Première fantaisie brillante sur des motifs de la Somnambule de Bellini.

18/02, 18:00 – Jakub Kuszlik 

The hero of the next installment of the series is the winner of the 2021th Prize of the International Piano Competition. Fryderyk Chopin in XNUMX – Jakub Kuszlik, who is hosting the Polish Baltic Philharmonic for the first time with this recital. The artist will play Fryderyk Chopin's Polonaise Fantazja in A flat major, Karol Szymanowski's Metopes and Grażyna Bacewicz's Piano Sonatas No. XNUMX and No. XNUMX.

16/03, 18:00 – DILETTO Early Music Ensemble 

The achievements of one of the most interesting Polish composers at the turn of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries - Mikołaj Zieleński and the early Baroque composer and bandmaster Marcin Mielczewski will be presented by a composer from Białystok. DILETTO Early Music Ensemble, which includes both vocal and instrumental musicians, led by its founder and conductor Anna Moniuszko. The artists will perform, among others: O gloriosa Domina,  Mottetto de S. Adalberto,  Ortus de Polonia or Fantazja II and Fantazja III a 3 by Mikołaj Zieleński, as well as Canzona a 2, Aria a 3 Marcin Mielczewski and his Vesperae Dominicales, i.e. Vesper Psalms intended for a choir of soloists, a ripieno choir and an orchestra.

13/04, 18:00 – The Whoop Group

Four saxophone virtuosos from The Whoop Group (Jakub Muras, Mateusz Dobosz, Krzysztof Koszowski, Szymon Zawodny) will reach for a very impressive repertoire, well-known, among others: in cinematography. Krzysztof Komeda's compositions will be played (Svantetic, Unloved and famous Rosemary's Baby) and Mieczysław Weinberg's String Quartet No. XNUMX and Album Tatra Mountains Ignacy Jan Paderewski (all arranged by the group's musicians).

11/05, 18:00 – Books Piano Duo 

An excellent and award-winning pianist Krzysztof Książek this time he will play two pianos in Gdańsk together with his life and artistic partner Agnieszka Zahaczewska-Książek. Under the banner Piano Duo Books will perform, among others: Harnasiów Karol Szymanowski, Rondo alla polacca E flat major by Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński, Negro spirituals Roman Maciejewski or Rondo in C major by Fryderyk Chopin.

25/05, 18:00 – Maciej Gański and Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf 

The series will culminate with a concert of two other outstanding musicians associated with Gdańsk - a pianist Maciej Gański and violist Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf. They will perform works for viola and piano (including 3 Mazurkas by Henryk Szopowicz, Serenade by Mieczysław Karłowicz, Romans by Piotr Maszyński, Scherzo by Jan Michał Wieczorek, Lullaba by Witold Lutosławski and Mazur by Emil Młynarski).
